A Midsummer Night's Party
We held our AGM and "Midsummer Night's Reunion Party" & AGM on Saturday 18th June. As guests arrived there was time for a quick tea and coffee with delicious home-made cakes before the AGM.
At the AGM the association discussed the activity over the previous year and future plans. Our request for new committee members was a success with Victor Markham & Steven Dering joining as we bid farewell to Robert MacDonald and Marcella Stratton. We thanked them for their support and at the same time, welcomed our new recruits.
In short, for the time being we will no longer organise reunions while we think of future reunions and how to structure them. Our priority is to organise the scanned photographs that our volunteers have done for us, expand our website content so we can share these old photographs and improve communication methods. We welcome any further feedback and comments.
Following the AGM and refreshments, the alumni were led off on a 2 hour "access all areas" tour of the school by current Principal & Chief Executive Tony Shaw. The all-access tour included the newly opened medical centre and the cellar, culminating at Canarvon Centre for the evening ahead.
The decorated Carnarvon Centre featured old unseen photos found in the cellar of the Manor house. These photos were scanned by a few of our alumni -Victor Markham, John Evans and Derek Barkes. During the scanning stages - a photo of Miss Mary Hare was found in a police uniform. This led to the fantastic creation of a timeline entitled 'Miss Mary Hare's Other Life' by Victor Markham. Thank you all for scanning the photographs and creating unseen history!
Alumni Rebecca-Ann Withey came to teach us Salsa dancing which was a real highlight to the evening. The kitchen staff at Mary Hare prepared a wide range of canapes and we had a bar open all night with plenty of drink choice! Everyone enjoyed spending time with friends, looking around the school and of course the dancing - they enjoyed it so much that at midnight we had to kick everyone out!
A personal thank you to all the committee members, especially Jemma for her continued hard work before, during and after the event! Thanks also go to Antonia McAlpine, event organiser at Mary Hare for her support with our reunion.
A major thank you to those who came, we really enjoyed the evening and will add some photos onto our website. If you have any you would like to share, please do email them to us at
