Summary of placement opportunity

To gain an understanding of the work that an architect does and the wider context of working in architecture.

For one week at a date to be agreed at Squire and Partners’ offices in Kings Cross, London. The role is unpaid. You must be happy to travel to different location in London. Hours are flexible, but core hours are 9.30 – 4.30.

This role would suit someone who would like to pursue a career in architecture, as it will allow you to see if it is a job that you would like to do and give you a distinct advantage in applying to architecture courses and first jobs, where some previous experience of working in an office is greatly valued.

The work generally would be split between shadowing a member of staff at Squire and Partners and doing short work ‘exercises’.  In addition, you will carry out simple drawings on CAD and illustration packages, model-making or site photography/information gathering.

One objective of the placement would be to provide the student with the opportunity to produce elements of work that can be taken away as a record of their time with Squire and Partners. You will see the range of work an architect does from initial concept designing, to attending meetings and drawing up final proposals.  Colleagues at Squire and Partners have been given deaf awareness training.
