Group Hearing Aid
At Mary Hare Primary we use an auditory-oral approach to language and communication. We therefore place a great emphasis in the classroom on the acquisition of language.
Over the past ten years Mary Hare has developed a unique group hearing aid, that is used in the classroom for most lessons. The children are supplied with a set of headphones that are designed to meet their specific audiological needs. The headphones are plugged into a computer in the classroom that recognises each child. The system allows the child to use their residual hearing to the maximum effect, so that they are able to hear themselves, the other children in the class and the teacher.
The headphones cut out nearly all background noise and are an invaluable teaching and learning tool, especially when introducing a new topic to the class.
