pupils-helping-at-new-club-web.jpgMary Hare School Youth Club – ‘Cole’s Diner’ – is now the host of a monthly club for children on the autistic spectrum.  The club was the idea of Kirilynn Gardner, who works at Mary Hare School as part of the Care Team.  Kirilynn’s son has Asperger’s syndrome and wanted to find ways of helping to socialise.  The Club welcomes children from West Berkshire aged 5 – 10 years.

Pupils at Mary Hare School have volunteered to help out at the club and after the first meeting, it seems set to be a big success.  “The response I have had from parents and West Berkshire autism workers has been over whelming to say the least” said Kirilynn. “We had 13 families join us including my own son, daughter and husband. It was so nice to see autistic children fitting in with others feeling at home, and to get all the comments from their parents of how lovely our teenagers are and how calm and kind they are with their youngsters.”
