Daily Routine

A student writes:

7.00 Woken by Louise, Head of Care. Time for one more snooze.

8.00 Missed breakfast again. Never mind, time for toast and a quick cup of tea and a look at breakfast television.

8.40 Registration. Mr Gale, Head of Sixth Form waits outside our form rooms to say hello and find out from the care staff what we've been up to. Hearing aids checked by form teacher.

8.50 First lesson. They last an hour and twenty minutes. That's a lot of Chemistry.

10.10 Break. Down to the Sixth Form to open our post, read the papers and have a drink and biscuit.

10.30 Free period - or study period according to the teachers. We are able to use the computer rooms and internet and send the odd email. Teachers keep an eye and help us if we're stuck.

11.50 Physics 'til lunch.

1.10 Lunch. Our main meal of the day. Favourites are lasagne, curry - and chips on Fridays. Vegetarian options and salad bar for those who want it.

1.30 Back down to Carnarvon Hall to relax. Prefect duty one day a week involves trying to keep younger children out of places they're not supposed to be in.

2.10 Registration

2.20 Assembly. Subtitles, good quality sound system and video of the speaker's face on six television screens means you have to pay attention. On Mondays, pupils do the assemblies themselves and Friday is a celebration of what's happened during the week.

2.35 Last lesson of the day.

3.55 The bell! Back down to Sixth Form for a drink and a biscuit and to catch up with the care staff.

4.30 Quiet study time in our rooms, or school if we prefer. We are supposed to work, but the occasional magazine gets read.

6.00 Supper. Either up in the dining room with the rest of the school or, if we want, we can make our own in the kitchen.

7.00 More study. Computer rooms are open, with teacher if we need to research or print work.

8.00 Free at last! Time for television or football or swimming or interhouse competitions.

10.00 Back to our own house. More TV or Playstation.

11.00 Own rooms. Time for bed. I WILL make it to breakfast tomorrow.
