England Rugby Debut for April

April Platt, a former pupil of Mary Hare School, made her debut for England Deaf Rugby on Sunday 27th January against the Deri Diamonds at Cardiff Arms Park.

April joined the England squad in September 2018 playing in second row and was one of the youngest players in the squad match.  April scored her first try for the squad on Sunday.  She said, 'I've been training with the England Ladies Deaf Team since September last year after a friend introduced me.  I was nervous to apply at first because they are an incredibly high level team that train at the top of their game, but even after a few sessions I had learnt so much.  It has been such an honour to be selected and to represent England.'

April's love of rugby began when she was at Mary Hare when she was introduced to the sport by Neil Owen, her PE teacher.  She said,'I kept my promise to Mr Owen that I would continue to play rugby!'
