Statement on British Values

We are very proud at Mary Hare as we believe our school values are a true reflection of British Values.

At Mary Hare School we uphold and teach our pupils about the British Values and their importance as directed under the Ofsted guidance September 2014 which states ‘ Governors must ensure that they and the school promote tolerance of and respect for people of all faiths (or those of no faith), cultures and lifestyles; and support and help, through their words, actions and influence within the school and more widely in the community, to prepare children and young people positively for life in modern Britain’.

As required under The Non Maintained Special Schools Regulations 2015 we are required to confirm our arrangements in actively promoting the fundamental British Values.

We ensure that through our school vision, ethos, agreed rules, curriculum and teaching we promote respect and tolerance for all cultures, faiths and lifestyles. As educators we have a duty to prepare our children for life in modern Britain and to keep them safe. We value the importance of and support the current Ofsted guidance. We also help pupils to recognize and celebrate these values in other countries and cultures as well as an understanding that having freedom and liberty does not mean you are not bound by the rule of law.

Democracy is evident within our school. The children vote for their house captains and school council representatives. Children hold many positions of responsibility within the school and are very proud of this.
