Mary Hare Therapy Centre

With decades of first hand experience of working with deaf children, Mary Hare is always looking for ways of sharing the expertise of its dedicated staff for the benefit of the wider community.

To this end, we have opened our own Therapy Centre, with specialist services available to local people and those from further afield.  To begin with we have concentrated on two areas:

Speech & Language Therapy

As an organisation we are regularly approached about private Speech Therapy due to growing demand for this service locally and nationally.

We are delighted to be offering this service one day a week and have plans to further expand this.  Our Speech Therapy service is available for deaf children and adults, as well as those with other needs.

This service is temporarily not available

We are currently not able to offer anyspeech & language therapy services due to the high vacancy rates for speech therapists across the country.  The Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists has stated: "A recent survey conducted by the RCSLT regarding recruitment and vacancies was issued to gain a better understanding of the national recruitment problem and the impact it has on services for children and adults. The results paint a shocking picture with the average vacancy rate reaching 23% across the UK. 96% of managers responded that recruitment of qualified therapists is much more challenging that at any one time in the last 3 years. These findings confirm that there are not enough speech therapists to meet demand and the RCSLT has informed NHS England so that the government can address the many challenges regarding the workforce".

Music Therapy

Mary Hare opened its Music Therapy Unit in 2006 when Arlington Arts Centre was constructed on the Seocndary School site.  The Music Therapy Centre is situated on the ground floor.

Our music therapist works with pupils at the school, as well as children with special needs in the local community around Newbury.  Music Therapy is of great benefit for deaf children and babies and can play an important role in the development of lanugage.
