Launch of Maryhare, a sculpture by Sophie Ryder
Pippa Middleton has been an Ambassador for Mary Hare School for several years. Her most recent support for the school is aimed at raising funds for the Mary Hare Primary School Appeal, with the help of artist Sophie Ryder.
Sophie Ryder was born in London, England, in 1963. Sophie studied combined arts at the Royal academy of Arts 1981-84, where, while obtaining her diploma in painting, she was encouraged by Sir Hugh Casson, the then director of the Royal Academy, to develop her sculpture.
Ryder's world is one of mystical creatures, animals and hybrid beings made from sawdust, wet plaster, old machine parts and toys, wire, torn scraps of paper and charcoal sticks.
Sophie famously developed the Lady Hare as a counterpart to Ancient Greek mythology's Minotaur.
It was for this reason that Pippa thought there might be a way of bringing Sophie Ryder’s work into the world of Mary Hare school, in order to bring the charity to the attention of a wider audience and raise essential funds for the planned new Primary School for deaf children.
On 20th September we will see the launch of ‘Maryhare’, a bronze created by Sophie Ryder especially for the School. This bronze will be available in a limited edition of 50, signed and with a certificate of authenticity. Proceeds from the sale of the sculptures will go towards the Mary Hare Primary School Appeal. The launch is by invitation only and will be in the presence of Pippa Middleton and Sophie Ryder. Guests will be able to purchase a sculpture on the evening.
