Peter Gale, CEO & Principal

BA (Hons), NPQH, PGDip in Ed Studies (HI) , Appointed October 2014

Peter has a degree in French and German and was a mainstream teacher with pastoral responsibilities before joining Mary Hare, initially as Head of Sixth Form. He has been a Teacher of the Deaf since 1998.

As a Vice Principal, he was in charge of admissions and this included supporting young people and their families who wished to secure a placement later than in Year 7. This gave him an insight into the difficulties faced by some deaf children in mainstream settings. He published an article about these challenges in the BATOD magazine.  He has also written a second article about his wish for Mary Hare to work more closely in collaboration with Local Authorities in the interest of the relatively small number of pupils who identify that they need what Mary Hare has to offer.

Peter has lectured on aspects of deaf education at the University Hertfordshire/Mary Hare Teacher of the Deaf course and has been involved with European projects which have given him the opportunity to lecture in Malta to professionals and parents as well as in Norway.

Prior to becoming Principal, Peter was Designated Officer for Child Protection and he lists the challenges of mainstream placements, safeguarding and the social and emotional wellbeing of young people as particular areas of experience and expertise.
