NDCS Right for the Future conference

In July, Helen Nelson, Head of the Courses Department, attended the  NDCS Right for the Future Conference in London. The extension of the mandatory qualification from 0-19 to 0-25 years has meant that Teachers of the Deaf need to become increasingly aware of post 16 options and how to support young people in this age range to best effect. As a result, the focus of the NDCS's conference this year was very timely and relevant. A  range of speakers provided information on transition, apprenticeships, careers and further and higher education.  The contributions from deaf young people provided a very important perspective on their own experiences of moving into post 16 education and training. Overall this was a much needed day which raised the awareness and knowledge of practitioners in relation to  this area of practice. The Mary Hare stand was well attended and it was good to speak to a range of attendees about the Continuing Professional  Development options on offer at Mary Hare.
