Boarding and Care
Boarding at Mary Hare Primary is certainly fun, according to our pupils!
Our bedrooms are bright and airy and are as friendly as possible. Many pupils decorate their bedrooms with photos, pictures and even lovely handmade bunting! Boarding students stay four nights per week, going home on a Friday and not returning until late Monday morning.
How do we care for your child?
We have dedicated care staff who are responsible for your child's welfare before and after school. The pupils know the care staff well and build up close relationships with them. Staff will look after every aspect of your child's welfare, keeping in touch with you as parents, liaising with the school nurse and talking to the teachers. They will also be available at your child's annual reviews.
We also have waking night staff so don't worry, if your child wakes up in the night, there will be someone to talk to.
How do we care for your child's health?
The school nurse and assistant nurse are based at the Secondary school. If your child requires medical attention, the nurse will be available and will consult with the Newbury GP if needed. The Newbury GP acts as the school’s Medical Officer.
Smaller medical matters will be looked after by a first aid trained member of school staff. We have a surgery based at the Secondary School which is run by our school nurse and her assistant nurse.
If your child were to need medical attention during the school week, he or she would be attended to by a member of our school care staff or the nurse (who will come to the Primary School site). If necessary, the nurse will consult with the Newbury GP. The school nurse works closely with the audiology team to monitor and provide for the needs of our hearing-impaired pupils. We also enjoy close links with the Royal Berkshire Hospital, which provides priority ENT consultation where required.
