Special Interest Groups

Mary Hare organises and hosts a Clinical Excellence Network (previously called Special Interest Group) in deafness three times a year. All speech therapists, teacher’s of the deaf and specialists in the field of deafness are welcome to attend the meeting.

We usually have a good turn out with around 15-20 therapists coming from various counties including, Berkshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire and Southampton. We are currently discussing the issue surrounding Specific Language Impairment and looking into describing a profile for deaf pupils. Other topics have included: intonation therapy, voice issues and the use of the laryngograph, assessments and norms, group therapy and feedback from national conferences such as the bilateral conference in Southampton.

The group also offers clinical support to therapists who may be new to the field or who have a small caseload in deafness. The aim of the group is to share ideas, concerns and promote evidence based practice.
