BTEC Advanced Award for Audiology Technicians in Educational Settings

The Ewing Foundation has collaborated with Mary Hare Training Services to develop a one-year training programme for staff who want to take responsibility for supporting the technical needs of deaf learners.

We expect most applicants will be working at the moment as School/ College Technicians (eg: IT, Science, DT) or Teaching Assistants in resource bases, special schools or sensory support services, and looking for more responsibility, job security or skill recognition. The one-year course comprises four units:

• Listening and Learning

• Personal Amplification Systems

• Fault-finding and Problem-solving

• Managing, Administration and Sharing Knowledge

These all include self-study materials (relating to workplace practice), assessed tasks and practical workshops to be held at Mary Hare and delivered by members of the Ewing Foundation, manufacturers and audiology technicians working in sensory support services. Students will also undertake five days' placement to extend their knowledge and experience in different settings.

The first cohort will start in April 2011: we will provide updates on the progress throughout the year. Please note that all places for this year's intake are full but if you would like more information or to express interest in joining next year's course, please contact:
