BackCharlie has worked at Mary Hare School since 2008 and has been the Wellbeing Lead since 2015, setting up the new Wellbeing Department in response to the growing national mental health crisis for children and young people. After graduating from the University of Reading studying Education and Deaf Studies, Charlie worked at Mary Hare as a member of the Care team. She then moved to work for a charity that supports deaf children and their families before returning to Mary Hare to establish the wellbeing department. In 2020 she became Joint Head of PSHE believing that the curriculum teaches all students at Mary Hare about wellbeing and keeping themselves safe. In response to mental health being under Safeguarding she became Deputy DSL.
Alongside her work with deaf children and young people, Charlie is also a British Sign Language (BSL)/ English interpreter. Having completed Level 1-6 in BSL and Level 6 Interpretation. Charlie has completed specialist courses to further her knowledge about wellbeing and mental health including qualifying as a ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) and Mental Health First Aider.
