Careers

Mary Hare is a boarding and day school for deaf children and young people aged between 5 to 19.  We have a number of exciting roles at Mary Hare in both our Boarding (care) provision and within our school – see below and select a tab to see which roles are available. Set in beautiful surroundings on a country estate just outside Newbury the boarding (residential care) houses are designed specifically for each age range and provide a home from home for all children who board during term times.  Applications for teaching roles are welcomed from both Teachers of the Deaf and teachers of hearing children.  Teachers without a formal qualification to teach deaf children would be required to qualify through in-service training within 3 years of appointment.  SEN point 2 would be awarded on completion. The opportunity to study for a Master's degree is also available.  We would fund these courses on your behalf.

'I started working part time at Mary Hare 20 years ago when my daughters were very young, working only at weekends. As my girls became older, I worked some evenings until eventually I became a full-time member of the team and heading the year 7 residential house. I stay because I love my job. Watching the young people find their identity, confidence, independence and voice as they journey through the school. To see them leave 6th Form as well rounded young people, makes all the hard work worthwhile and I feel so proud of them' Alisa
