Soundwave is our annual magazine showcasing the highlights of all Mary Hare activities across the last academic year. You can sign up to receive a digital copy of Soundwave which comes out every June.
On Thursday 13 August, there were plenty of celebrations for our Sixth Form students at Mary Hare School, as they opened their results for A Level, BTEC and Technical Qualifications.
We proudly celebrated a 95% pass rate across the board. Students completing BTEC qualifications have enjoyed particular success, including two students with Distinction* in Sports Studies and a further five students who gained Distinctions in Computing, Performing Arts and Land Based Operations.
Two students achieved A grades in Childcare Skills, a qualification that includes a licence to practice and supports their future employability.
Many achievements deserve recognition and celebration, as all students have secured their place in their first-choice universities to study a range of subjects including English Literature, Politics and International Relations, Law and Journalism.
Michael Farron, who passed his plumbing qualifications and has secured himself an apprenticeship with a heating and plumbing company, shares his delight in his results:
“I am really proud of my results. I have already begun my apprenticeship, and so far, I am really enjoying it. I would like to say a big thank you to Mary Hare - I am grateful to all the staff who have helped me during my time at the school.”
Sophie Mernagh, who has had a fantastic couple of years in international sports competitions, scored a Distinction* in Sports Studies and will be heading to Southampton Solent University to study Football Studies.
Sophie’s mum, Julie, shares in her delight, “Sophie is really proud of what she has achieved and can't wait to start Football Studies at Solent Uni in September. The whole family are proud of her and her results, which are an amazing achievement and a testament to her dedication and hard work and the support of the school. We wish her all the best when she starts university.”
Robin Askew, Principal of Mary Hare School, commented, "I am delighted that all students at Mary Hare have attained results that enable them to transition on to their first-choice pathways. The results are testament to all students and staff who have worked with dedication and the conviction to prove deafness is not a barrier to success. I wish all of our leavers well for their future."
These results mark another year of academic success for the school. We remain dedicated to helping deaf young people fulfil their full potential, empowering them with the skills, confidence and ambition to succeed in whatever path they choose.
