On Saturday 20 June, over 180 alumni came together to mark a very special anniversary: the 80th year since Mary Hare School was named after its founder, Miss Mary Hare.

The day commenced with a welcome speech from Derek Grabham, Chair of the Mary Hare Alumni Association. There were lots of reminiscing as guests browsed through the wealth of history in the Mary Hare Archive Exhibition, featuring a breadth of articles and items including uniform from across the years, photos showcasing memorable moments and landmark events, and former classroom technology.

Guests also had the chance to tour the school, where they could revisit parts that were more familiar, and explore the newer developments of the school.

In the afternoon, guests gathered in Dulverton Hall, where they enjoyed the music by Alumni band, Lumpy Custard, who played a selection of pop favourites. Principal, Robin Askew, shared his reflections on the 80th milestone and the history of Mary Hare School, and the event culminated with the cutting of the cake and a light hearted general knowledge quiz.

Lots of Alumni continued their own celebrations after the event, including a social meet up at the local pub, and a walk around Snelsmore Common where they enjoyed retracing familiar paths from their old school days.
