Celebrating Lightmongers Education Awards 2026
The May 2026 Court Dinner of the Worshipful Company of Lightmongers was a truly memorable occasion and one that our Head Prefect, Jasper, will long cherish. The event took place at Tallow Chandlers' Hall, in London, where they attended the Court Dinner along with Principal, Robin Askew, and the organisation's Chief Operating Officer, Peter Robson.
The Worshipful Company of Lightmongers is one of the modern Livery Companies, and through its Charitable Trust the Lightmongers seek to encourage the long-term technical strength of the industry by providing Awards to the top-performing students on a range of lighting education and training courses. Additionally, the Lightmongers have a long history of supporting Mary Hare, as well as New College Worcester, and Jasper was awarded a framed certificate in recognition of his contributions and hard work at Mary Hare, and was also presented with a cheque to support his continued studies. Jasper gave a short speech highlighting his academic progress and personal development, recognising going from no speech at 3 years of age, to now delivering speeches to large audiences.
The school was also presented with a cheque and a continued commitment from the Worshipful Company to support ongoing development plans. This year's funding will enable the school to proceed with planned science lab refurbishment work.
Robin Askew, Principal of Mary Hare School, responded by thanking "the Lightmongers for their very generous donations, which are hugely appreciated and make a difference each year. In the case of Mary Hare, it would enable the refurbishment of a science lab to proceed" – a project he had feared was going to have to be delayed. Robin Askew invited Jasper Loten, the Head Student of Mary Hare School to say a few words about the impact of the School on his life and his eloquent and moving speech about that impact brought the guests to their feet for a standing ovation.
The court dinner also provided an opportunity to connect with members of the Worshipful Company in addition to the Master of the Worshipful Company of Water Conservators, who shared many inspiring and amusing anecdotes.
