Why study Childcare Level 2 & 3 ?
We offer bespoke training in childcare here at Mary Hare.
The Level 2 Certificate in an Introduction to Early Years Education and Care is a knowledge and skills based introduction to Childcare.
This course will benefit people who work, or want to work in an Early years setting.
The L3 Award, Certificate and Diploma in Early Years Education enables you to work as a qualified member of staff providing you have Maths and English at grade C. This course is essential if you want to work in Early Years settings such as Nurseries and Pre-schools. This course will enable you to access higher education. One grade holds 420 UCAS points.
What does the course cover and what is expected of you?
L2 – You will cover several units that make up 33 credits. The topics include Child Development, Welfare and Health and Safety. You will be required to complete 250 work placement hours. An assessor will assess you in the workplace.
L3 - You will cover 15 units over two years. There is also a compulsory practice study task and an extended assignment. The course covers several topics, these include Child Development, Safeguarding and Professional Development. You will be required to complete 750 hours of work placement. An assessor will assess you in the workplace.
Are there any other costs and what must I bring?
You will be required to have DBS which must show that you are clear of any convictions.
You will be required to wear smart clothes to placement along with plain white polo shirt. Flat shoes are essential.
What support is available?
There are support materials which students may borrow and other relevant books are available from the library or vocational area. The vocational area has 4 support workers who will have allocated times to support students with their work.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, you must be 16 years of age. The aim is to achieve an A* -C grade in English and Maths before the completion of the course.
Pupils will be expected to undertake additional study in their own time and complete the assignments on time.
Assessment will be based on work carried out during the course. This will be knowledge based assignments and assessment in the workplace.
When you have completed L2 you may progress onto other L2 courses relevant to the work sector or a L3 course/qualification through the same awarding body.
The examining body for these qualifications is CACHE. Mary Hare is an approved CACHE centre and make use of a wide range of skilled, qualified and experienced staff members.
What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

- you will be able to use the school's eportfolio system
- work confidently and competently with children aged 0-7 years
- have a knowledge of theories related to childcare
- work as part of a team
- observe and plan for children's individual needs
- take part in activities in an Early Years setting
- discuss legislation with regards to equality, safeguarding and health and safety
