Book debut

During lockdown the English department organised a creative writing challenge for some of the Year 7s.  Through a series of online sessions, the groups studied gothic horror writing and were then given a scenario where they would stay the night in Darkwood Manor, a haunted mansion.

Each pupil created a character with its own backstory.  Each character was wooed to stay a night in the Manor in return for £50 from the owner in order to confirm the Manor was not haunted, thus enabling him to sell the property.

The night turned out to be more than just 'your average sleepover'!

Following such an amazing selection of stories, the English department decided to publish the book and to make it available for sale to parents.  The book cover was designed by Nuala, also in Year 7.

There has been such excitement around this project and it is marvellous to see the imagination of the pupils, who are in their first year of secondary, in print.
