Giving Tuesday: Support or share our new Bursary Scheme
Today (Tuesday 28 November) is #GivingTuesday. Join us in a global day of generosity creating ripples that extend far beyond. This year make an impact to our Mary Hare community with the launch of the Ivan Tucker Bursary scheme. The Mary Hare Foundation launches £100,000 appeal to support School’s core costs.
Many of our Alumni and staff hold fond memories of Dr. Ivan Tucker OBE, whose legacy continues to make an impact on Mary Hare long after his stewardship as principal and CEO. Dr Tucker wasn't just a leader; he fervently advocated for the belief that every deaf young person deserves the opportunity to develop their language skills to the full and have the chance to access the full national curriculum.
This Giving Tuesday Mary Hare Foundation is honoured to announce the Ivan Tucker Bursary scheme. This Bursary scheme embodies his unwavering commitment to providing deaf young people with the chance to thrive academically.
This isn't a typical bursary scheme; it’s a lifeline to Mary Hare School's core mission.
Mary Hare School is a non-maintained special school and Local Authorities pay the fees of students educated with us. While 95% of assessed pupils are offered a place at Mary Hare, 50% of those families must navigate the emotional and legally complex process of taking the Local Authority to educational tribunals to secure funding for their child. Tribunals can take months to years all the while Pupils are missing out on crucial education.
Mary Hare covers the costs so pupils can start school at the beginning of the academic year with their peers. We need your help to raise £100,000 each year to bridge the gap. Ensuring that no deaf child is left behind in their education.
