Messing about on the river

On Tuesday and Wednesday the 13th and 14th July, all the children from Mary Hare Primary School were invited to have a day out on the canal.  Following their participation in the Agricultural Challenge for Newbury Show, the school was offered a trip on a canal boat, The Hannah, run by The Kennet and Avon Canal Trust (Bruce Branch).  As numbers were limited, the Bruce Trust very kindly offered two whole day trips so that all the children could have the opportunity to go.

The volunteers were kind and helpful and we had two wonderful days.  The children had the opportunity to have a turn at steering as well as helping with going through locks.  We saw lots of wildlife, including swans with cygnets, moorhens, fish, a swimming grass snake and a kingfisher! We can’t thank the Bruce Trust enough for a lovely end of term treat.
