Spreading a bit of peace

We would like to thank the Lions International club for providing Mary Hare with the opportunity to take part in this international competition. For over three decades, Lions clubs around the globe have been sponsoring a very special art contest in schools and youth groups.  They have encouraged pupils to create peace posters giving children everywhere the chance to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity.

Six of our pupils in Year 7 entered the competition with school and Howard House working together - Leila, Jacob, Jermone, Amber and Marcie. They all received prizes for taking part which were presented by Judith Colby (President of the Newbury Lions Club) and Collin Mansell.

The winner of the Newbury Lions Club's Peace Poster competition was Amber. Second and third places went to Jerome and Leila, respectively. Both judges found Amber's work to be the best of the entries and her artwork was sent forward for judging in the Lions District 105SC event. Unfortunately Amber was not awarded a place in the District competition but she received a prize for being awarded 1st place locally and her artwork was been framed for us to exhibit at school.

We would like to congratulate all those who took part.
